WINDOWS 7 : flight of the feathers

last september i was one of a handfull of artists commissioned to create a desktop image for the new Windows 7 software. being that Windows 7 launched this week, i am finally able to make a post about it.

Picture 3

if you watch the following video at about 2:24 you’ll see my image on the touch screen demo.

the objective as far as i can remember was to create an image that conveyed adventure, delight, lightheartedness, and something fun to look at, and it needed to be able to appeal to a wide audience…

with his homemade cloud suit and a pair of feathers he takes a leap of faith at the center fountain where all wishes are made.

so for any rednose fans out there, you’ll be happy to find a little ‘freebie’ in your next Windows upgrade. i just hope ‘the launch’ goes over well…

Flight

here are the approved sketch and colorstudy. it honestly was a blast to work on and even the rejected sketches ended up being created for my own work later on. thanks to everyone at 72&Sunny for the adventure.

society of illustrators exhibit NYC

i am happy to announce that a humble piece of mine is hanging among work that is clearly out of my league. it is always an honor to have work selected to be in the Society of Illustrators annuals, and i only wish i could make out this week for the opening on march 6th. SOCIETY OF ILLUSTRATORS

the piece was part of the advertising for the upcoming Directory of Illustration 26

thanks to mr david plunkert of SPUR DESIGN

this is the concept that was chosen for the theme of Smell Opportunity

just finished up another campaign in Norway. cant say too much about it yet, but these two beers mugs from the series seemed to sum up how i felt when it was completed.

what a challenge and thanks to the whole team at SMFB for their confidence in my work.

the mugs were made from discarded spritz bottle lids and the ale and froth came from a Gorilla Glue accident.
cheers!

This spring the Devil and I took a trip to New York to get shot.

I was commissioned by the firm DDB to submit a concept for an ad for Epson. The campaign is “Now your ideas can look as good in your hand as they do in your head” It was a fun project where the goal was to create an image for a fictitional shoe company that i got to make up. The ad for Epson would attempt to show the creative process of how my ideas are generated, evolve and are selected for final execution.

The night I got the call about the project I was out shoveling 10 inches of snow off my driveway. Naturally i was thinking of my cold toes… that let to me remembering my days working on an asphalt paving crew and how your feet seemed to melt to your boots by the end of the day… then that led me to thinking of boots and soles, that led to souls and the devil and heat and fire and then i figured it would be fun to create a firefighter boot that had ‘Heat Resistant Soles” That’s how the concept came about for the El Diablo Boot company. the legal department eventually found a Canadian boot seller called El Diablo Boots and so the name was changed to “Boots del Diablito Company” After a focus group, a little second guessing, tons of sketching, placement contemplation and a photo shoot with the Devil by Sam Yocum the following ad evolved.
Some of the magazines it has been seen in so far.. MacWorld, HOW, GDUSA

red nose in Norway

this summer i worked on an ad campaign for SMFB in Norway on the laundry care machines of ASKO.
the gang at SMFB were great to work with. good dialogue, cultural education and fun concepts.
even though the campaign is only in norway, its getting some nice press from over here as well.
Creativity did a piece on it as well as Adrants
