Book covers fascinate me, i love the challenge of trying to distill a book into a single image. In fact i think that might be the wrong way to look at it. i think it works best when i aim to capture the emotional pull of the story. the more i leave out of an image the more the author and reader can bring to the table.
As you will see with the sketch process the Art Director Maeve Norton helped me arrive at an image that is simplified and bold. without her guidance, i am not sure i would have been as successful.
written by Sophie Anderson, i enjoyed diving headlong into her words and exploring the worlds she builds. here is a synopsis: Marinka dreams of a normal life, where her house stays in one place long enough for her to make friends. But her house has chicken legs and moves on without warning. For Marinka's grandmother is Baba Yaga, who guides spirits between this world and the next. Marinka longs to change her destiny and sets out to break free from her grandmother's footsteps, but her house has other ideas...
