The Library of Lost Things

Roughs and final along with some details of a commission for Irene Gallo of TOR Books. Irene is a treat to work for, her enthusiasm truly helps my work grow every time. Full credit to Matthew Bright for the story full of lights, darks and the many textures that i enjoy working with.

Welcome to the Library of Lost Things, where the shelves are stuffed with books that have fallen through the cracks-from volumes of lovelorn teenage poetry to famous works of literature long destroyed or lost. They're all here, pulled from history and watched over by the Librarian, curated by the Collectors, nibbled on by the rats. Filed away, never to be read. At least, until Thomas, a boy with a secret, comes to the Library.

Here are the rough sketches submitted for the story. I couldn't shake the character of the Librarian. The way Mr. Bright describes the character's, motions, sounds and smells created a very vivid image for me that i enjoyed exploring.

the rats play a vital role here too, it took several tries to find out how to best render these little guys.
